Is there any gambling involved?
No! Our Horse Racing Nights are all about raising all-important funds for your organisation. All profits made should go completely to your school, kindergarten, sporting club – or whichever group is running the event.
I’m involved in my local school and we’re always looking for fund raising ideas. Would a horse racing night be suitable?
Absolutely. As fun as things like trivia nights are, people soon get tired of the same types of events, year in and year out. Not only is a racing night something fresh and new, it also has a lot of scope to include other activities such as a fashion parade or contest. It’s completely up to you!
How does a racing night work?
You will need to organise a race manager who will host the night and provide direction to the guests. We also recommend you allocate 1 bookie for approximately 30 people whose job it will be to take bets. The bookies are given their betting slips, fun money IOUs, pens and race cards and given a table to sit at. Fun money is distributed to the guests and they are then invited to place bets with the bookies. The bookies provide betting slips for each bet placed. The race manager runs the race on the DVD, announces the results and winning punters are invited to collect their ‘winnings’ from the bookie. All in all, just like a real race carnival – but without having to lose the shirt off your back!
What do Horse Racing Nights provide?
We will provide the racing DVD, betting slips, fun money, bookie IOUs, race card and instructions for the night.
What do we need to supply?
The basic items you will need include a DVD player and screen (to show the races), pens/pencils for the ‘punters’, table/chair for each bookie and perhaps even a PA system depending on the number of people you are hosting and how noisy it gets!
What are other things I could do during a race night?
Hosting your own Fashions on the Field is always a popular event. It can be as serious or zany as you like. Focus on outfits or even just head wear.
Is it expensive to run a horse racing night?
Not at all. In fact, it’s probably one of the best value options available. Contact us today for a no obligation quote.
How can my organisation actually make money?
There’s a number of ways to raise funds with a racing night. Start by charging a ticket price. Organise a Field Fashions competition and charge entrance. Hold auctions on the night. Allow ‘punters’ to buy back in (for a donation) once they have run out of ‘fun money’. Sell race sponsorship to tables or groups of people. The possibilities are endless.
How much money could we make?
It really is up to you and how you plan to structure the night. A popular method is to charge a reasonable entry fee and then continue to raise money on additional activities throughout the night. On a basic level, if you are expecting around 200 guests, then charging a $25 entry fee (in return for some ‘betting money’ will raise a minimum of $5,000. And that doesn’t even factor in extra buy-ins, auctions, drinks etc. For a very small outlay, the potential returns turn out to be quite generous.
